Emergency responders quickly become an extended "family". As team members we rely on each other when the going gets tough. This trust becomes a connection takes being or having been a member of a "life or death" team to understand. Our SERVICE OATH says it all:
I voluntarily take this oath with purpose and with pride. I hereby accept the District's Mission, Values and Principles as my own in the presence of my family, my neighbors, my officers and my fellow Firefighters, EMT's and First Responders. I understand that all these lives will be in my hands and mine in theirs. I am committed to developing my knowledge and skills at training and at drills knowing that a life may depend on my ability to learn and my dedication to train. I make this oath knowing that my service will protect the lives and property of my family and my neighbors. Because this community and my fellow responders rely on me, I solemnly swear my dedication to the Fire Service as a member of San Juan County Fire Protection District #2. Separately and together we are the Orcas Island Fire & Rescue.

ORCAS ISLAND FIRE & EMS TRAINING
Orcas Island Fire has one of the most advanced on-going training programs in the state. Training is based on a four 3-month calendar quarters. Our members complete their “classroom training” via our district web page. This can be done whenever the member chooses but must be completed before attending the “practical” trainings, which is offered three times each quarter.
Our "Menu" approach to training allows us to keep our members current with state standards with the maximum flexibility to achieve their training needs on their own schedule. We compensate our members in many ways with financial incentives plus health and fitness programs.
